BID Safety Partnership Case Study: Business Crime Reduction Partnership
In May 2024, Liverpool BID Company proudly achieved the prestigious Business Crime Reduction Partnership National Standards Accreditation, being hailed as an “outstanding example” of collaboration to enhance city safety. This milestone reflected the city’s commitment to fostering a safer environment for businesses, employees, and visitors alike.
The initiative, part of a larger network of over 250 Business Crime Reduction Partnerships across the UK, aimed to make city centres safer through collaborative efforts. In Liverpool, the BID Safety Partnership brought together the Liverpool BID Company, Merseyside Police, Liverpool Nightlife CIC, and Liverpool City Council. Together, they worked tirelessly to address safety and security concerns across the city.
The national accreditation served as a benchmark of success, offering reassurance to stakeholders—including businesses, police, and local authorities—that the partnership was delivering results and providing excellent value for money.
How Liverpool BID Company’s Safety Partnership Operated:
The BID Safety Partnership introduced several innovative measures to address safety concerns. At its core were two full-time Merseyside Police officers dedicated to supporting BID Levy Payers. They respond to non-emergency safety, anti-social behaviour, and security queries, providing support seven days a week.
Additionally, the partnership utilised the DISC Intelligence Sharing Platform, allowing businesses in both the daytime and nighttime economies to share critical information. Regular intelligence-sharing briefings created an opportunity for businesses to discuss safety issues and stay informed about developments in the area.
The partnership also included:
- City Watch Monitoring: A City Watch officer, funded by the BID, managed the Radio Link network during key hours, ensuring communication and coordination.
- BID Radio Link Network: With over 180 active businesses, this system enabled 24-hour communication and intelligence sharing using state-of-the-art digital radios.
Looking Ahead
The National Standards Accreditation recognised Liverpool’s dedication to making its city centre safer, cementing its reputation as a leader in business crime reduction. This partnership not only demonstrated the power of collaboration but also set an inspiring example for other cities striving to create safer, more secure urban environments.
Liverpool’s success story showcased how a shared vision and coordinated efforts could transform safety for businesses and their employees, fostering a thriving and secure city for all.
