Case Study: Christmas Craft Club – Bringing Creativity and Community to the Heart of the City
As the lights twinkle across Liverpool city centre and festive cheer begins to fill the streets, Liverpool BID Company is once again bringing people together through creativity and connection with our annual Christmas Craft Club.
Each year, in the lead-up to Christmas, we invite levy payers and members of the Liverpool community to slow down, get hands-on, and rediscover the simple joy of making something special. This year’s workshops are a celebration of festive craft and community spirit – featuring sessions in Christmas candle decorating, Scandi stars, bauble design, and wooden Christmas garland making.
At the heart of the Christmas Craft Club is a simple idea: to create moments of connection and calm in the middle of the festive rush. The workshops offer a creative escape where participants can unwind, meet new people, and take home something beautiful they’ve made themselves – a reminder of the magic of Christmas made by hand.
Each year, we choose crafts that celebrate tradition and sustainability, using natural materials and encouraging reuse where possible. This year’s Scandi-inspired decorations bring a minimalist, cosy feel to the season — perfectly in tune with the warm, welcoming atmosphere we aim to create at every event.
A Community Celebration
The workshops have become a much-loved tradition for many of our Levy Payers and city centre visitors. From lunchtime drop-ins to after-work sessions, the events are designed to be accessible, free, and inclusive, ensuring everyone can take part – whether you’re an experienced crafter or a complete beginner.
Our aim is to make the city centre not just a place to shop, but a place to share experiences. The Craft Club sits alongside our wider programme of festive activities, helping to animate the BID areas and bring vibrancy to local spaces through creativity and collaboration.
Vicky Doran, Engagement Manager at Liverpool Business Improvement District said:
“There’s something special about coming together to create and socialise. These Christmas workshops aren’t just about crafts – they’re about community, connection, and the kind of festive magic that only happens when people share space and stories.”
As we gather around the craft tables this December, surrounded by ribbons, twine, and laughter, we’re reminded that the festive season is about more than gifts — it’s about community, connection, and joy.
The Christmas Craft Club is a small but meaningful way to bring that spirit to life in Liverpool’s heart — where creativity meets community, and where everyone can take home a little piece of Christmas magic, they made themselves.
