Commit an Act of Kindness for Mandela Day
Liverpool BID and Mandela8 join forces for Friday 18 July
It is time for new hands to lift the burden. It is in your hands now”
Nelson Mandela
People in Liverpool are being encouraged to commit an Act of Kindness as Mandela8 and Liverpool BID Company come together for Nelson Mandela International Day.
The theme for this year’s Mandela Day is ‘Kindness, Communities, Change’. Join us in doing an act of kindness in or for your local community, because working together we can make change.
Nelson Mandela International Day, on Friday 18 July 2025, shines a light on the legacy of a man who changed the 20th century and helped to shape the 21st. The day is used as a moment to renew the values that inspired Nelson Mandela, and to examine how his values should inspire us to take action and make a change.
Mandela8’s Mandela Day: Acts of Kindness campaign (formerly ‘My 67 Minutes’) encourages everyone to take time out of their day to do something for someone else or for their community.
Liverpool BID Company are planning a series of events you can get involved with to give back to others and be kind to yourself on 18 July;
- Mandela Day Yoga on the Tempest on Tithebarn rooftop
- Litter pick at 12 noon from St Pauls Square
- Planting session – BID are looking for volunteers to support with planting some unloved areas in the commercial district

“Everyone in a community can help to transform the lives of those around them by committing an Act of Kindness. For us at Liverpool BID, it stays true to our ethos to help our businesses improve the environment around them for everyone, and focus on their wellbeing. This is always an inspiring day and we look forward to its return”.
Acts of Kindness are a truly transformative practice that change how we interact with each other and our city. For businesses it is a moment to consider their role in our community and society and to be part of the hustle and bustle of the city for a day”.
Sonia Bassey, Chair of Mandela 8
