Monday 5th May 2025, 12pm – 4pm, Free, Family-friendly

A Freddie Mercury flashmob will be amongst the fun, family-friendly dance performances taking place across Liverpool City Centre on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May 2025, as part of Leap Dance Festival 2025.

Dancing in the Streets is a free event from Leap Dance Festival, promising a range of performances and dance styles to keep Liverpool’s bustling high streets entertained.

Last year, Dancing in the Streets brought breakdance, tap and latin to over 25,900 audiences, and this year, performances will include street theatre, salsa and ballroom – all taking place 12pm – 4pm on Church Street.

One of the day’s highlights will be Grace Goulding’s Freddie Flashmob: Everybody Dance Now is a pop-up performance featuring 50 performers, all dressed as the iconic Freddie Mercury, in a joyous celebration of community togetherness through dance. Commissioned by Culture Liverpool.

We’ll also be entertained by Ukrainian Folk Dance group Radist, ballroom duo Ben and Shannen, SugaGill Salsa and Mersey Swing, who all proved to be crowd favourites at Dancing in the Streets last year, plus many more.

Meanwhile over in Liverpool One, The Birdcage Stage CIC will bring their signature style of non-verbal visual theatre to Liverpool with a mesmerising spectacle of dance, acrobatics, clowning and aerial theatre.

The Queen of Hearts is a story of heartbreak, friendship, status games and silliness, fusing dance theatre, puppetry and costume art. Follow the Queen’s subjects as they try their best to please her after no one turns up to her party. The Queen of Hearts is a fun show for the whole family reimagining what happens in Wonderland when Alice is nowhere to be seen!

Dancing in the Streets is funded by Liverpool BID Company and Liverpool ONE.

Leap Dance Festival Director, Paul Doyle, said: “Leap Dance Festival exists to support artists to produce exciting new work, and to provide access and opportunities for people in the Liverpool City Region to engage with dance. We’re really excited to be bringing so many dance styles to the streets of Liverpool for audiences to enjoy for free, and we can’t wait to see your reactions!”

Leap Dance Festival 2025 takes place from Saturday 26th April – Friday 9th May, with events taking place in The Capstone Theatre, Unity Theatre, Arts Bar, Sefton Park Palm House, Church Street and Liverpool One.
