Jazz Saturdays all the way to Xmas Eve at Ma Boyle’s
Saturdays of late have seen the intimate Ma Boyle’s partying loud to the strains of all things jazz, tucked away down the narrow Tower Gardens street.
The historic hideaway has so far hosted a series of weekend shows from eclectic music masters Parrjazz, bringing in local and far-flung sounds to Liverpool on Saturday evenings. Having live music back at the venue has been particularly special for Iain Hoskins, Ma Boyle’s owner, and having people back together to dance and have lots of fun.
Iain says:
“We really love what the Parrjazz guys do and it fits so well at Ma Boyle’s. The reception has been brilliant each and every time, we’ve had some fantastic music from all corners of the jazz world from Dean Masser Duo and Neil Yates to truly sublime sounds from Baiana. I for one and I know so many more people have missed music in venues and at Ma’s jazz works so well. We have been booked up for months since this started up again and the last trio of shows are going to help us see out December in fine style.”
There are three final dates of the year to savour – this Saturday with Frank Griffith, Saturday 18 with Blind Monk and finally Ma Boyle’s Xmas Eve Parrjazz special with Rob Stringer.
→ Saturday 11 December – Frank Griffith
Renowned saxophonist, clarinetist and arranger, Frank Griffith developed his distinctive New York jazz sound living and performing in the city for over 20 years. Counting Joe Henderson, Lester Young, Duke Ellington and Burt Bacharach as some of his main influences, Frank plays many forms of jazz including modern, mainstream and traditional alongside funk and soul.
→ Saturday 18 December – Blind Monk
Liverpool’s own Blind Monk cascade Black Sabbath, Stranglers and Coltrane in one hard and fast hit with raucous sax and bass.
→ Christmas Eve Special on Friday 24 December – Rob Stringer
The Christmas Jazz Special. Getting everyone in the festive mood, pianist and singer Rob Stringer sings all the festive classics for a cosy Christmas Eve jazz brunch. Pre-booking highly advised to see out 2021 at Ma Boyle’s with some jazz-infused magic.
It’s free entry for all Jazz Saturday shows which start from 8.30pm.
