The Art School in June
Royal Ascot, Father’s Day and Henners all feature in a packed month at Liverpool’s leading gastronomic destination
In June, Chef Patron Paul Askew and his team proudly present three wonderful occasions at The Art School, part of a packed summer month at Liverpool’s leading gastronomic destination. Blending fine-dining with horse racing at Royal Ascot and celebrating Father’s Day, to a special evening with the UK’s best wine producer, Henners, means June is looking rather special on Sugnall Street.
Paul says: “With spring now showing itself fully and summer incoming soon, we’ve got a lovely June for our guests at The Art School. As always, we will focus on bringing to life locally-sourced ingredients in our menus and dishes, to honour the rich bounty the land around us provides. These will be matched with exquisite wines, served either in our main Lantern Room setting or downstairs in The Art School Cellars. We can’t wait to welcome everyone.”
First up, there’s a double date of premier horse racing from Royal Ascot downstairs in The Art School Cellars. Thursday 18th June is Ladies Day and Gold Cup Day with a full card of epic races, followed by another packed day of action on Friday 19th June running all afternoon. These events are perfect in The Cellar’s intimate setting, with the horse racing displayed on screens and the team’s delicious platters, bowl food and a welcome drink of fizz all part of the experience. This follows on from the Cheltenham Gold Cup a few weeks ago and very recently Paul took The Art School to The Grand National in Aintree for its 5th year for a spectacular weekend of fine-dining and racing in Topham House.
Next is the Father’s Day Luncheon in The Lantern Room on Sunday 21st June. It’s a family-focused opportunity to celebrate all the much-loved dads, toasting in their honour and to savour a seasonally curated menu. Whether it’s a small group or a large get together, The Art School can host every kind of celebration for this very special day. There’s a junior menu available too for children aged 12 and under.
Then on Thursday 25th June, Henners make a very welcome return, with Master Sommelier Nigel Wilkinson hosting the evening with Paul, featuring five courses and five paired wines. Nestled next to the Pevensey Levels Nature Reserve and less than 5 miles from the sea in East Sussex, Henners Vineyard is planted with three classic sparkling grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The vineyard is in one of the driest, sunniest pockets of England and they’ve established themselves as one of the UK’s leading independent wine makers. Their focus on sustainability is at the heart of The Art School, too.
Paul explains: “We can’t wait to welcome Henners back to The Art School with our good friend Nigel joining me. Their vineyard benefits from its beautiful coastal location – its low elevation and rich, free-draining clay soils make the site ideally suited for producing their high-quality sparkling and still wines. We really love what they do and we serve many of their vintages. Nigel and myself will guide guests through each course and wine during the event.”
