Not only does Liverpool’s reputation come from the bubbly Scousers, who are ranked as some of the friendliest in the world, it comes from the bustling city centre, the neighbouring areas and the wider city region. When moving to Liverpool, you may not have heard of the Liverpool coastline that is just a short train ride away or the many green spaces just a short bus ride away such as Sefton Park; one thing we know is that you will never be bored.

So, now that you know the basics of being a Scouser, a few things we want to clear up is:

  • Tea is no longer just a hot drink but rather a meal that comes at the end of the day

→ Bold Street

If you are still finding your feet, we suggest heading straight to Bold Street. Bold Street is a community proud of its independent spirit and welcomes an eclectic and diverse mix of restaurants, cafés, boutiques and more; with many taking part in our Student Takeover! A visit to Bold Street is a trip like no other as a simple walk bring with it a multicultural journey from a range of eateries and venues.

You can expect to find staple residents such as Café Tabac and Pop Boutique who both offer students 10% off all year round or Wok to Walk who are giving students 50% off their full menu during Fresher’s Week, plus more offers! You can also expect to find House of Colour and Andrew Collinge Graduates, who are both offering student savings during Student Takeover!

There are even more reasons for you to visit Bold Street such as Resurrection and Size also have 10% off all year round, and Coyote Ugly Saloon, who are giving students 25% off food and loads of drinks deals! We doubt we need to give you any more reasons to encourage you to visit the famous street, but we can’t resist sharing with you that the street is also closed to traffic and is pedestrianised meaning our favourite restaurants now spill out on to the street – talk about al fresco!

→ Castle Street

Further afield, you will stumble across Castle Street. A thriving restaurant and hotel scene that has some of the city’s best bars and restaurants whilst being home to one of the city’s most iconic buildings, the Liverpool Town Hall.

By taking a trip to Castle Street, you will also find Queens Avenue, also known as Liverpool’s own Diagon Alley, which is the perfect backdrop for any Instagram pictures.

Just a stone throw away, sandwiched between Castle Street and The Strand is where you will find Beetham Plaza, Drury Lane, Fenwick Street and James Street.

Liverpool’s high street is ever evolving, from the iconic brands on Church Street, Whitechapel and Lord Street, to the high-end boutiques of Metquarter.

Here you will find Kurt Geiger and Pandora who are offering 10% all year round and River Island who are giving 20% off during Fresher’s.

We can’t forget about Boots and Superdrug who have 10% off too or the great new addition to the Metquarter, GPO Liverpool’s largest food hall, hosting a varity of vendors showcasing global cuisines.

→ Williamson Square

Right in the heart of Liverpool city centre, found beneath the Radio City tower and home to the iconic Liverpool Playhouse, you will find the pedestrianised shopping district and food hub: Williamson Square.

Right on its doorstep is St Johns Shopping Centre, which we guarantee will be your second home whilst you live in Liverpool. Spaced over two floors are some of the city’s longest standing independent fashion retailers and essential national stores.

From Wilko and Home and Bargain (remember, it’s not Home Bargains!), to Ryman who are offering 10% off all year round and both The Fragrance Shop and The Perfume Shop who have a 10% discount.

The square is also home to the iconic Playhouse Theatre, who are offering students great discounts on tickets, food and drink and free access to pre-show events for members of the YEP.

We’re pretty sure that you’ll have heard of Liverpool ONE, if not it’s the shopping centre right in the heart of Liverpool city centre. They house over 150 shops, bars and restaurants spread across five districts; you are bound to find yourself a very good bargain and student deals.
