Diabetes UK Wellness Walk

19 May

Liverpool is to host a Diabetes UK Wellness Walk for the first time on Sunday May 19th.

The Wellness Walk will be an eight-mile circuit around some of the city’s best known and best loved sights as a way to get active together and promote wellbeing while raising vital funds for Diabetes UK.

Participants can look forward to receiving an event t-shirt and a finisher’s medal, as well as being part of a friendly and supportive community before, during and after the event.

Diabetes UK’s Head of the North region, Clare Howarth said:

`We are so thrilled to bring the brilliant buzz of a Diabetes UK Wellness Walk to Liverpool,’

The event has been welcomed by Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health at Liverpool City Council who said:

“Keeping fit and being active does not have to be all about going to the gym – it’s about getting fresh air and building exercise into your daily routine. Wellness Walks are a simple way to boost your wellbeing, and where better to do so than Liverpool – taking in some of the world-famous sights along the way.”

The start and finish will be at the Pier Head in front of Liverpool’s iconic Three Graces buildings and close to the famous Beatles statue.

There will be trainers on hand for a fun, pre-walk warm-up, an MC to pump up the mood at the start and welcome finishers back, music on the way round  and at the finish walkers will have the chance to relax, pose for photographs, or even enjoy a massage.

To sign up as either a walker or volunteer just visit the Liverpool Wellness Walk pages at https://wellness-walk.diabetes.org.uk/find-a-walk/liverpool/

The participation fees are £10 for adults, £5 for 12- to 17-year-olds and it’s free for 11-year-olds and younger, with a maximum of three under 18s per adult. Fundraising is not mandatory, but if walkers can raise money through collecting sponsors, it will help fund vital research into creating a world where diabetes can do no harm.
