Nigel joined as Chair of Liverpool BID Company’s Executive Board on 1 June 2023, after being a long-standing member of the BID Board and Partner at BDO. Get to know Nigel a little better below!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a chartered accountant now back in practice after several corporate roles in various sectors and locations. Outside of work I enjoy cycling, running and generally most things which take in the great outdoors. Myself and my wife Caroline have an old campervan and like to get out in “Kermit” whenever the opportunity arises!

Can you let us know about BDO?

BDO is an accountancy and business advisory firm with around 8000 colleagues operating across the UK. Our operation here in Liverpool primarily comprises BDO’s Shared Service Centre which provides internal compliance and administrative support to the entire firm. I established the team in 2016 and we now employ in excess of 700 specialists making us one of the city’s larger employers. We have a recruitment strategy that includes building relationships and partnerships with local universities, colleges and organisations that support social mobility.

Why did you want to be the next chair of the Executive Board of the Liverpool BID Company?

I have been a member of the Executive Board for over 3 years as I wanted to have a greater connectivity to the business community and understand more about how the city’s economy operates and how I could support that, in any way. When the opportunity for Chairperson arose I was really keen to express my interest as I feel I can support the team and levy payers by leveraging my experience in many different settings to support, develop and promote the great work the BID does.

How does the Liverpool BID Company help businesses in Liverpool?

Liverpool BID helps businesses in many ways from improving the street scene with a small team of street rangers through to delivering the Christmas lighting across the city centre and much, much more inbetween!

What are you looking forward to as being chair of the Executive Board?

Short-term, I’m really looking forward to getting to know the entire BID team a little better than I currently do – it is a great organisation which does so much to promote and enhance the city. I really want to help support the direction and strategy of the BID to ensure we gain the maximum benefit for the levy payers and the wider community who live and work in the city.
